Speculation and suspicion abounds about billionaire, philanthropist, political activist, and U.S. citizen George Soros. One reason he is viewed by many as anti-american is his openly stated belief that the supremacy of the United States has become a threat to world peace and human survival. Regarding funding rioters, his OSF organization https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/ disavows any rioting but acknowledges giving hundreds of millions of dollars to the groups who are associated with the riots.
To expand your background, please read these three articles to understand the mindset of George Soros and his influence in the world:
1. A 1995 interview is a very long article but very insightful. It’s like a mini biography. You’ll learn how in 1992 he made $2B by breaking the Bank of England, why most thought doing so was despicable, and how he leveraged his fame to get meetings with political leaders like President Bill Clinton. It is filled with insights as to how he made his fortune, how others in his inner circle view him, and numerous events that shaped his life. He talked about harboring messianic illusions—what he describes as a sense of himself as superhuman—since childhood.
2. A 2003 interview about his attempt to prevent President Bush’s reelection as “a matter of life and death.” He opposed President Bush declaring war on terror in response to the deadliest terrorist attack in history when 2,977 people died on 9/11/2001.
3. A July 17, 2020 NY Times article - Soros supports Racial Justice groups about the announcement that his Open Society Foundation is investing $220 million to assure several Black-led racial groups can continue for at least five years. The donation will “reshape the landscape of Black political and civil rights organizations, and signals the extent to which race and identity have become the explicit focal point of American politics in recent years, with no sign of receding…Mr. Soros, who has at times faced smears and anti-Semitism over his role as a liberal megadonor, is also positioning his foundation near the forefront of the protest movement.”
Here is an excerpt from the 2003 interview that further explains his opposition to Bush:
Soros's Deep Pockets vs. Bush
George Soros, one of the world's richest men, has given away nearly $5 billion to promote democracy in the former Soviet bloc, Africa and Asia. Now he has a new project: defeating President Bush.
"It is the central focus of my life," Soros said, his blue eyes settled on an unseen target. The 2004 presidential race, he said in an interview, is "a matter of life and death."
Soros, who has financed efforts to promote open societies in more than 50 countries around the world, is bringing the fight home, he said. On Monday, he and a partner committed up to $5 million to MoveOn.org, a liberal activist group, bringing to $15.5 million the total of his personal contributions to oust Bush.
Overnight, Soros, 74, has become the major financial player of the left. He has elicited cries of foul play from the right. And with a tight nod, he pledged: "If necessary, I would give more money."
"America, under Bush, is a danger to the world," Soros said. Then he smiled: "And I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is."
Soros believes that a "supremacist ideology" guides this White House. He hears echoes in its rhetoric of his childhood in occupied Hungary. "When I hear Bush say, 'You're either with us or against us,' it reminds me of the Germans." It conjures up memories, he said, of Nazi slogans on the walls, Der Feind Hort mit ("The enemy is listening"). "My experiences under Nazi and Soviet rule have sensitized me," he said in a soft Hungarian accent.
Soros's contributions are filling a gap in Democratic Party finances that opened after the restrictions in the 2002 McCain-Feingold law took effect. In the past, political parties paid a large share of television and get-out-the-vote costs with unregulated "soft money" contributions from corporations, unions and rich individuals. The parties are now barred from accepting such money. But non-party groups in both camps are stepping in, accepting soft money and taking over voter mobilization.
George Soros made his fortune operating one of the most successful hedge funds in the history of investing, averaging a 30% return every year. At that rate a $1000 investment is worth over $4 million after 31 years.
He was born Györgyin Schwartz in Budapest, Hungary in 1930 and his family survived the 11 month German-occupation of that country before moving to the United Kingdom in 1947. He idolized his father Tivador who helped a lot of people during WWII. He put himself through the London School of Economics and eventually earned a Master’s degree in philosophy.
His career in the financial world began as a stock broker and in the early 70’s formed Soros Fund Management, later known as the Quantum Fund. George started his philanthropy in 1979 when over 400 million people lived under communist rule in the Soviet Bloc and apartheid was firmly entrenched in South Africa. His organization has helped transition countries to democracy and his concept of a civil society is where no one is oppressed and dissenters have a voice. Soros started “open society” foundations, first in Hungary, followed by China, in 1986; the Soviet Union, in 1987; and Poland, in 1988.
This insightful excerpt is from the 1995 article, “He began establishing new foundations at a furious pace in the formerly Communist countries—sixteen between 1990 and 1992. The regimes in some of these countries were still blatantly repressive, and the foundations’ role was not very different from that of the earlier, pre-1989 foundations. But in other places the difference was night and day. Whereas in the past Soros’s strategy in these closed societies had been to nurture the weak and subvert the powerful, now everything was up for grabs. Soros could, in some instances, perhaps help decide who would be the powerful—and he could shape these emerging societies not from the bottom but from the top.”
The Open Society Foundations (OSF) has facilities in 37 countries giving it the largest collective footprint of all philanthropic organizations. It was formerly called the Open Society Institute. Wikipedia defines OSF as “an international grantmaking network founded by business magnate George Soros. Open Society Foundations financially support civil society groups around the world, with a stated aim of advancing justice, education, public health and independent media.”
George Soros turned 90 on August 12, 2020. Wikipedia reports his wealth at $8 billion and that he has given an estimated $34 billion to OSF, about $15 billion of which has been distributed.
It was September 16, 1992, that became known as “Black Wednesday” when Soros made $2B by causing a run on the Bank of England. It was quite a feat that devalued the savings of millions of hardworking people from all over Europe and reached all the way to Japan. https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/08/george-soros-bank-of-england.asp
Similarly, in January 1997 Sorros’ hedge fund short-sold Thailand’s currency, the Baht, and before long the Bank of Thailand failed which sent multiple regional currencies in a tailspin. Once again the resultant economic downturns were damaging to millions of hardworking people. The pattern here is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Soros has remained critical of our conservative political leaders and donates large amounts of money to promote progressive ideals and candidates at national, state, and local levels, especially prosecutors who are far-left candidates who will be soft-on-crime to keep crime rates on the rise and violent criminals walking free. For example, he openly funds organizations supportive of defunding police. He has people in Britain furious who accuse him of trying to sabotage Brexit.

The most successful revolutionary movements have applied pressure both from below and from above. “From below” means at the grassroots level to create the illusion the movement has popular support. Mainstream media and social media play a big part in creating such illusions by limiting honest debate and reporting bogus poll results. Throughout history, publicity has been sought by staging strikes, holding rallies, circulating petitions, and making threats. It is then accentuated and accelerated using violence designed to intimidate law enforcement (riots, burning, looting) plus committing random acts of sabotage and terror to make people feel unsafe, fearful, and uncertain about the future. This is combined with placing pressure “from above” designed to coerce elected leaders into supporting measures that takes liberties away from the majority and empowers the extremist groups. Each legislative win is followed by more demands for even stronger legislation, which is relentlessly pursued by the extremists who claim that they are acting out the will of the people. But that is why we have elections, to know the will of the people… and that is why revolutionaries must do everything in their power to try to steal or discredit the elections.
Remember that tyrants don’t debate their opponents, they silence and punish those who oppose their revolution.
